Guest Edit #47: Dimbleby & Capper
Hello all, I’m D&C (Dimbleby & Capper) guest editing for a little while. I’ve put some of my favourite tracks into a playlist for you to listen to (including one new unheard D&C track!) and put together a few features of stuff I think is cool. We’ve got a couple of shows coming up in August - 14th at the Old Blue Last, London and Festibelly in the New Forest on 27th. I play my shows with two costumed dancers and a live drummer, so it’s pretty beat and bass heavy with dance routines to boot; we’d love to meet you! I’ll be bringing out some new music in the autumn and all of our current releases can be found on iTunes/Spotify or can be bought from www.deeandcee.com. You can also follow what we’re up to on Twitter and come and join us on Facebook. Enjoy!
Track
Artist: King Charles Track: Mr Flick Release: September 2009 Label: Mi7 Records
I met King Charles when we shared a session slot on Huw Stephens' Radio 1 show in 2009. Got hooked on him then and have been listening ever since. There’s a raw energy in this track that never fails to stir me. It just makes me want to run around dancing like a dickhead! He’s a very talented songwriter and has an ability to write these epic, chant-like melodies. There’s power in this track and I can’t wait for an album from him.
Album
Artist: The Smashing Pumpkins Album: Adore Release: June 1998 Label: Hut
I was 10 when it came out, but this was one of those hand-me-down albums I got off my older sister that then proceeded to be the album of my teenage years. All those first cigarettes, that first heartbreak, all those exams and ALL those awkward moments, Billy Corgan seemed to take up a permanent residency in my sweaty bedroom. I think the sonics and production of this album have probably influenced my production and writing more than I’ve realised. Those heavy, almost industrial beats and the mixing of the electronics and jangly guitars. It’s all crept in there along the way!
Video
Artist: The Count & Sinden feat. Rye Rye Track: Hardcore Girls Release: October 2008 Label: Domino
Maaaan this was so tricky! There’s just SO MUCH good stuff out there but here’s one of my favourites from the last few months… This girl is BIG!! This video has got so much attitude you can’t help but love it. Self assured. Vivid. A wee bit surreal. Absolutely banging tune. After watching this video I always think I can take on the whole world. HARDCORE GRRRRRLZ. YEAH.
